SMPTE, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, is almost 100 years old and is grappling with the greatest and most profound changes in its long history. The forces behind these changes will be much to fore at its biannual exhibition and conference that kicks of in Sydney on 23 July.

CombiTel, a leading Australian IPTV systems integrator announced today that TransACT commenced commercial deployment of Australia's first hybrid IPTV Service using a turnkey IPTV solution integrated by CombiTel.
The solution was selected by TransACT following a competitive tender process involving several industry leaders. It includes CombiTel set-top box software that has been developed specifically for TransACT and best-of-breed IPTV system components from CombiTel vendor partners. The initial roll-out, started in early 2010, delivers broadcast TV, Video On-Demand, TimeShift, Digital Video Recording and other advanced interactive services to TransACT subscribers in Canberra, with further expansion planned into other regions.
